Taking Spain’s DGT theory test independently: requirements and application

Yes. The DGT allows you to prepare for the theory test and apply for the tests independently. You must meet the licence requirements, obtain a psychophysical fitness report, submit the application, and pay the relevant fee. You can apply in person or online through Spain’s Electronic Register.
What applying independently means
The DGT says that although most candidates prepare and apply through a driving school, you may also submit the application independently. For the theory stage, you can study on your own and file the documents yourself.
Applying independently does not remove the administrative requirements or make the entire licensing process free. The test fee does not include driving-school tuition. Practical-test organisation and the vehicles used for those tests have requirements separate from theory preparation.
Documents required by the DGT
The DGT electronic office lists three basic items for an ordinary application: the official aptitude-test application, a psychophysical fitness report from an authorised centre, and proof that the relevant fee has been paid.
The fitness report is valid for 90 days for submitting the application. Always recheck the official page before applying because channels, forms, and fees can change.

How to submit the application
You can deliver it in person at a provincial traffic office or submit it online through the Electronic Register. Online submission requires an accepted digital identity method, legible attachments, and keeping the registration receipt.
The DGT warns that an application sent through the register is not processed automatically and has no guaranteed processing time. After it is handled, the traffic office communicates its decision and the test appointment.
How many attempts the fee covers
The ordinary fee covers two test attempts. If you fail twice, whether in the same test or across different tests, you must submit a new application and pay another fee. It does not grant two independent attempts for every stage.
