When does a passed DGT theory test expire? Spain’s exact two-year rule

Short answer
A passed theory test remains valid for two years counted from the day after you pass. If you pass the next test within that period, a new two-year period starts from the day after that later pass. If the period expires before you complete the licence, you will have to retake the affected tests.
How the period is counted
Article 53.1 of Spain’s General Driver Regulation gives every passed test a two-year validity period. The clock starts on the day after the candidate is declared to have passed, not on the test day itself.
Keep the official result date and count from the next day. Do not rely on an informal estimate from a school or on the date you happened to receive a message if it differs from the official pass date.
When the period starts again
If you pass the next test before the current period ends, Article 53 says the validity period begins again. For example, when you pass the theory test and then pass the practical test within those two years, the new calculation starts from the later passed test.
The tests are eliminatory under the Regulation: the knowledge tests must be passed before the relevant skills and behaviour tests can be taken.
What happens after two years
The DGT’s practical summary is that if you do not obtain the licence during the period, you must sit the tests again. Leave enough time for the practical stage instead of relying on the final weeks of validity.
If you move to another province while a passed test is still valid, the DGT says you can continue by transferring the examination file. Moving does not extend the two-year period.
