Short answer

You can transfer an open DGT examination file to another driving school, another province, or independent status while calls remain. The file must not be expired and cannot have a pending exam appointment. The current DGT transfer fee is fee 4.1, listed at €8.67.

When a transfer is available

The DGT permits school-to-school, independent-to-school, and school-to-independent transfers, including between provinces. The open file must still be valid and must not have an assigned examination pending. Cancel that appointment first or wait until after the test.

What carries over

Remaining calls, a passed theory test within its two-year validity period, and the psychophysical report already in the file carry with the transfer. If both calls have already been exhausted, the old file closes and you make a new application through the school you choose instead of transferring it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I repay the main examination fee when transferring?

Not merely to preserve remaining calls. The DGT lists the smaller transfer fee 4.1. A new main application fee is required after the calls are exhausted.

Can I transfer after passing theory?

Yes, provided the file and passed test remain valid and no examination appointment is pending.
